The Legal Assistant I/II is a crucial role in our Insurance Services Group Legal Department and is responsible for providing legal secretarial and administrative support to attorneys, paralegals, and officers.

Responsibilities

Provides legal secretarial and administrative support to staff, attorneys and officers; assists in the preparation of legal documents; coordinates and assists with state insurance division audits; prepares communications, memos, documents and reports for department and division management; coordinates the location of documents and records through legal indexing system and records research; maintains tracking system for legal documents and records.

Qualifications

Legal Assistant I

 

Education & Experience: Associate's Degree preferred.  2 years of progressively responsible administrative work experience in a law office or corporate law department, or the equivalent combination of education and/or relevant experience.

 

Knowledge & Skills:  Acquires and applies working knowledge of industry, company and product terminology; department processes and procedures. Advanced knowledge of MS Office Suite; event/meeting agendas, scheduling and coordination; travel coordination; confidential records maintenance.  Ability to properly interpret state and federal statutes, regulations and case law.

 

Job Complexity & Judgment:  Works on assignments of limited scope or routine in nature.  Has limited responsibility in decision making.  Works within defined procedures and escalates issue if deviation from normal routine is necessary.

 

Independence & Supervision Required:  Typically receives detailed instructions on all work.  Takes ownership of routine work and operates with little guidance after period of initial training.  Works under close supervision.

 

Interaction & Influence:  Communicates and interacts with persons at all levels in the organization, industry and community.

 

Legal Assistant II

 

Education & Experience: Associate's degree preferred.  4 years of progressively responsible administrative work experience in a law office or corporate law department, or the equivalent combination of education and/or relevant experience.

 

Knowledge & Skills:  Applies working knowledge of industry, company and product terminology; department processes and procedures.  Advanced knowledge of MS Office Suite; event/meeting agendas, scheduling and coordination; travel coordination; confidential records maintenance. Ability to properly interpret state and federal statutes, regulations and case law.  

 

Job Complexity & Judgment:  Works on assignments that are semi routine.  Works within defined procedures but is able to deviate from normal routine.  Understands when to escalate issue if necessary.

 

Independence & Supv required:  Typically receives general instructions on routine work.  May require detailed instructions on new assignments.  Follows established procedures.

 

Interaction & Influence:  Communicate and interact with persons at all levels in the organization, industry and community.
