Responsibilities

Senior Associate/Assistant Actuary at Standard Insurance Company; F/T in Portland, OR.

 

Duties: As part of the Corporate Actuarial Team at Standard’s office in Portland, Oregon, this role is responsible for designing and building modeling solutions in support of our critical corporate actuarial initiatives, such as embedded value analysis, interest rate risk management and hedging, and forecasting and analysis of investments and capital. Responsibilities include:

 

  • Contribute to development and implementation of The Standard’s embedded value framework using expertise in actuarial products (annuities, life and disability insurance) to ensure that the framework is sustainable, accurate and effective in capturing material aspects of the business.
  • Contribute to the analysis of The Standard’s risk profile by supporting hedging and interest rate risk management infrastructure.
  • Develop robust models that inform capital market decisions and support the growth of investment and insurance products within The Standard’s portfolio.
  • Partner with other modelers on the Corporate Actuarial Team to design and develop solutions for new initiatives and to promote model control standards.

Qualifications

Requirements: Bachelor’s degree, or foreign academic equivalent, in Mathematics, Actuary Science, or Statistics; and 5 years progressively responsible experience demonstrating effective communication and collaboration with actuarial and business line leaders to evaluate, understand, and quantify risk; to include the following, which may have been gained concurrently:

 

  • 5 years of actuarial modeling experience including exposure to at least one commercially available actuarial modeling platform: GGY AXIS, MoSes, or Prophet;
  • 1 year of experience with database extraction tools: SQL, SAS, C#, or Python; and
  • 1 year of experience in analysis of capital market-related economic processes.

 

Additional Requirement: FSA (Fellow, Society of Actuaries) designation.
