Director of Data and Automation:

 

Our Director of Data and Automation role is an exciting opportunity for someone with diverse data and software engineering leadership background; someone who brings experience transforming legacy data capabilities, technologies and processes through a lean, agile model toward real business results.

Responsibilities


• Partner closely with business leaders to identify and prioritize business imperatives in data/analytics and robotic process automation (RPA); define executable roadmaps; and, recommend sound technology solutions.
• Drive evaluation and delivery of new data and automation capabilities, considering business and technology drivers, and with a bias for creativity, sufficiency, lower TCO, quality, and high-velocity delivery.
• Manage a solution lifecycle including new capabilities, enhancements and maintenance, while leading an evolution of data maturity to meet changing business needs.
• Lead and manage people, including hiring, performance, compensation, goals, capacity planning and assignments, and overall talent development and cross-training.
• Provide architectural/engineering leadership and oversight, aligned with business/technology strategies and drivers.
• Grow a positive team culture and dynamics, fostering employee satisfaction and retention through strong leadership by example.
• Promote collaboration, transparency and effective cross-functional partnerships within the team, across IT and with business partners.
• Manage vendor evaluation, selection, partnerships and leverage.

Qualifications


• A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Math, Information Systems or equivalent technical field of study; graduate degree a plus.
• Broad IT data/applications leadership and implementation experience, with 10+ years project, maintenance and production support background.
• A proven track record leading BI and Data Services teams in high-volume environments with large, disparate, disconnected and/or unstructured datasets and complex business requirements.
• Significant experience with transactional and analytical database platforms and environments, from architecture/design and modeling through “consumption.”
• Experience with a variety of technologies and toolsets (e.g., cloud, SaaS, PaaS, open source, .NET, Java, integration tools, etc.).
• Basic knowledge of hardware and infrastructure components (servers, network, storage, security) and how they support software applications.
• Strong knowledge of SDLC methodologies; experience with Agile, Lean and DevOps a plus.
• A demonstrated ability to attract, retain, motivate, coach and grow high-performing analysts and engineers.
• Strong people management and vendor management skills.
• A demonstrated ability to lead goal-setting and continuous improvement.
• Strong business and financial acumen, preferably with insurance/financial services industry background.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to tailor communications to multiple stakeholders including executive leadership.
• An ability to develop strong relationships with internal customers while effectively influencing business outcomes.
• An ability to operate as part of the overall solutions delivery management team, taking accountability for individual and team results.
