    The Individual Disability Claim Assistant is responsible for assisting The Claims Department to secure claim information, communicate claim status to the insured, input claim data in multiple systems, and carry out claim management plans to ensure timely and accurate processing of claims of all levels of complexity. This individual also analyzes disability claim information, makes benefit decisions and payments on low liability claims, and administers low maintenance claims.  

    Responsibilities

    Secure information pertaining to claimants' medical condition, occupational demands, income, insured status and other policy provisions, as directed by the Claims Department, to ensure timely claim investigation and provide excellent customer service keeping the claimants informed of claim status and their responsibility to provide information. Follow up on outstanding information within prescribed time frames for pending and established claims. Assist Claims Department in processing claim in Proclaim and SharePoint (if applicable); prepare written communication of approvals and other basic claim decisions.    

     

    Develop and execute claim and disability management strategies for assigned established claims to appropriately contain claim liability and provide excellent customer service; ensure that each claimant's ongoing and changing medical condition and deductible income are investigated, applied and pursued, then used to reach timely and appropriate claim resolution and correct payment duration. Make and communicate ongoing disability decisions and issue correct benefits for low liability continuing total disability and partially disabled claimants. Maintain spreadsheets to assist in analyzing financial documentation from various business entities to determine eligibility for monthly payments and yearly tax return reconciliation. 

     

    Investigate, secure and analyze information pertaining to claimants' medical condition, occupational demands, insured status and other policy provisions to accurately determine eligibility for, and entitlement to disability benefits for lower liability and shorter-term claims; identify file/fact discrepancies and outstanding issues and secure additional documentation as needed while investigating within prescribed time frames. Make and communicate disability decision and issue correct benefits for new low liability and short duration claims.

     

    Provide accurate claim information to claimants and other interested parties; resolve issues through effective telephone communication. Analyze and research complex questions and follow through with caller, communicating with appropriate Claims Department, and by involving appropriate people within, or outside the department or company.

     

    Ensure the company's reserve liability is accurately established by identifying all applicable claim offsets and maintaining accurate claim and system data.

     

    Approving; provide training for the department, sections and individuals; support processors on team as necessary.

    Qualifications

    Education: Associate’s Degree in Business, Science or related field - Preferred 


    Experience:  One year related work experience, prior customer service experience, or the equivalent combination of education and/or relevant experience. Intermediate level Excel and Word skills required.
