    Analyze and evaluate disability risks to create and negotiate competitive offers, sound plan design, and product enhancements to write, retain and grow profitable and diverse block of business; exhibit positive leadership; build effective working relationships with brokers, Regional Directors, Master General Agents, Securian Partners, and other departments to manage the offer process.

    Responsibilities

    Contribute to the company’s success through excellent customer service and meeting or exceeding performance objectives for the following major job functions:

    (35%)    * 1.       Apply sound underwriting and creative business judgment in the timely analysis and evaluation of insurance risks to contribute to the growth, diversification and long term profitability of the Individual Disability block of business and meeting stockholder expectations.  Collaborate with Individual Underwriters to provide creative plan designs and competitive offerings.

    (35%)    * 2.       Develop, enhance and maintain effective working relationships with brokers, Master General Agents, Securian Partners, Regional Directors, and Home Office personnel through professional negotiation, responsive communication, problem resolution and meeting customer expectations.

    (15%)    * 3.       Participate in product development and process improvements to deliver competitive products and services to achieve division goals.  Recommend changes and updates to software modules to ensure user-friendliness and competitive position in the marketplace.

    (15%)    * 4.       Design, prepare and present program training to field representatives and recommend new sales and reference aids.

    Qualifications

    Demonstrated skills: Analyze, interpret, and apply financial, and legal information and coordinate with Individual underwriting department to evaluate disability risk; provide comprehensive and timely review to create a timely and competitive offer while balancing costs; express ideas clearly in written and oral communication; organize workload and adjust work schedule to meet changing priorities and deadlines; perform advanced level math functions, word processing and spreadsheet skills; make timely decisions in the absence of specific direction; negotiate effectively with policyholders, field, field managers, Individual Underwriters and Home Office personnel; demonstrate technical expertise and mentoring skills; work effectively in collaboration with team members.

     

    Ability to: Train others, think creatively, problem solve, make decisions, and negotiate results; document significant action; research and analyze company financial data.  Travel 5 – 10 times per year.

     

    Working knowledge of: State insurance statutes and applicable tax regulations; competitors' products and marketing practices, division computer systems, functions of other Division departments.  Salesforce.com

     

    Advanced knowledge of: Company and reinsurance underwriting guidelines, products, procedures and contract provisions; and financial underwriting considerations. 

     

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Education: Degree in Business or related field.

     

    Experience: Five years demonstrated progressive multi-life risk evaluation skills with a demonstrated balance of skills in each of the following areas:  case design review regarding age, income, and overall potential risk; product development; and individual plan designs; training skills, or the equivalent combination of education and/or relevant experience.
