    The supplier management team develops, implements, and manages procurement strategies with our internal stakeholders and supplier partners in a way that drives value to our company and enables Standard Insurance to meet its corporate objectives.  These strategies have an emphasis on quality, cost, compliance, innovation and customer service.


    We have exciting technology investments happening here at The Standard. Our industry is alive with new technologies, new ways of doing business, and new products. To support this innovation, we are looking for a Supplier Manager intern who can provide support on strategic initiatives.


    Project Description:

    In this internship, key learning opportunities include experience with the Source to Pay workflow, contract negotiation strategy, how to mitigate risk and how to maximize contractual value and results.  Specific roles and responsibilities include the following:


    • Support the execution of category strategies and support the management of the entire procurement process resulting in the best possible terms for value, quality, and service and delivery.
    • Support development and management of positive relationships with customers, suppliers, stakeholders, peers, and business partners.
    • Support the development of commercial engagements within the procurement lifecycle including supplier selection, negotiation planning, contract negotiations, and executing agreements. Draft and redline commercial components of master purchasing and service contracts, statements of work, and non-disclosure agreements.
    • Assist with risk analysis to identify issues (financial, operational and/or regulatory) and develop risk mitigation strategy. Communicate risks and alternative mitigation strategies to business owners and cross functional partners.
    • Partner with internal organizations to: define moderate to complex product / service requirements; assist with identifying qualified suppliers; run RFx events and evaluations; provide supplier evaluation framework; and make recommendations on supplier selection


    Expected outcomes:

    At the end of the internship the intern will be expected to:

    • Make a presentation to the supplier management team on a project they completed to demonstrate what they achieved.
    • Gain a more in depth understanding for Supplier Management, Sourcing, Contract Management, The Standard, and its industry.


    Required Skills:

    • Introductory College Level Supply Chain Management, Business, Contracts, or Financial related course work
    • The ability to work as a part of a team as well as independently with minimal direction on assigned workload.
    • Written and oral communication (presentation)  
    • Advanced skill levels in Microsoft Office suite of products, particularly Excel



    • Intermediate/Advanced College Level Supply Chain Management, Business, Contracts, or Financial related course work
    • An interest in the Financial Services industry
