    The Role


    The role brings engineering discipline and best practices to investigating, architecting, designing and implementing new solutions and/or adding new features and functions to existing solutions.


    Investigation:  Investigation starts with understanding the business problem to be solved.  This role will lead or participate in requirements gathering that will feed an iterative based methodology.  


    Architect and Design:  Designing solutions using an iterative, test driven methodology is the expectation.  Software Engineers will write their own unit tests and perform the validation using contemporary tools, moving us towards continuous development/continuous integration.  Production ready code is the target for all Software Engineers in this family.  Data needs will be gathered, designed, implemented and tested by the Software Engineer using Oracle, Microsoft, or other data repositories.   Designs and code are peer reviewed with other Software Engineers or architectural governing bodies, depending on their complexity.  Development in multiple modern languages is required with good proficiency.  All architecture and design is expected to adhere to good enterprise level application security best practices.


    Implement:  Software Engineers are expected to build and automate the deployment of their components/solutions into production.  Knowledge or proficiency in the current industry toolset for this purpose is required.


    • Lead or participate in architecture, implementation and design reviews
    • Organize and lead working groups to establish solution options across varying current or new technologies
    • Quickly prove out technologies and approaches to solve business problems
    • Create documentation of the implemented solution to facilitate knowledge transfer and ongoing operational support.
    • Prioritize and manage multiple work efforts, driving project success and delivering to customer expectations.
    • Participate in the engineering community to identify new technologies, methods, standards.


    Software Engineers have to possess and demonstrate systems and critical thinking and leverage that in a collaborative team-based environment.  The ability to play varying roles comfortably is required. 


    The Preferred Candidate Will Have

    • At least 5 years as a full-stack software engineer/developer or similar role in a software development setting
    • An Agile mindset with experience working in Agile environment
    • Experience acting as a primary software developer and/or tech lead on medium to complex IT projects
    • Working knowledge of hardware and infrastructure components (servers, network, storage, security).
    • A strategic and practical mindset, able to drive conceptual conversations and planning with business and IT, with the ability to chart the technical course for delivery.
    • A natural curiosity for new scripting languages, frameworks and technologies
    • Quality-orientation, considering and instilling quality in every aspect of the job function.
    • Provide architecture and design guidance to developers; perform design and code reviews
    • Experience with application testing including the creation of test scripts and documenting test results.
    • Experience working in a distributed, non-homogeneous technology environment
    • The languages and/or platforms the Software Engineer should be familiar with are:
      • Concurrent and asynchronous programming
      • Spring Boot
      • Angular
      • SQL
      • Micro-service development and domain driven design
      • Git, Jira, Jenkins, Maven, Junit, Jmeter, Selenium, Jprobe and XLDeploy/Release;


    Additional Qualifications That Add Value

    • Experience Dropwizard or Vertex
    • Experience with Scala
    • Experience with Kafka
    • Experience with NoSQL Databases (i.e. MongoDB, Cassandra)
    • Experience with Caching (i.e. Redis)
