    We are looking for a talented paralegal with transactional experience and excellent legal research skills to join the Legal & Compliance Department. This person should be self-sufficient and have proven capability handling high quality, high volume delivery with minimal supervision. This person must be a quick learner with impeccable attention to detail.     • Review incoming Power of Attorney documentation for conformity with state requirements and escalate to attorneys, as appropriate.
    • Conduct legal research including statutory, regulatory, and case law research, as needed by attorneys. Perform initial assessments and prepare responses to requests for attorney review.
    • Periodically update internal 50 State Surveys and Benefit Code resources based on legal research.
    • Process and manage individual and group bankruptcy-related matters.
    • Perform initial review of standard contracts and provide support to contract attorneys.
    • Assist with Affirmative Action Plan notices, Market Conduct Exams, and various compliance projects throughout the year.
    • Occasionally assist with document production requests, including performing privilege reviews, redacting privileged information, and preparing privilege logs.
    • Assist attorneys with a variety of transactional-related projects. 
    • Exercise exceptional judgment and attention to detail.
    • Communicate and interact professionally with persons at all levels in the organization, industry, and community.


    Education:  Associate’s Degree in Paralegal Studies or Paralegal certificate, or the equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.


    Experience: At least 4 years’ work experience as a paralegal in a legal department or law office, or the equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.


    Skills & Knowledge: Excellent legal research skills. Ability to analyze facts and identify relevant legal issues; communicate clearly and concisely in written and oral communication; and analyze documents and files in support of transactional management and special projects. Prior experience reviewing powers of attorney preferred. Basic understanding of bankruptcy and contracts. Ability to work on a wide range of complex assignments, often defining procedures on how to complete project work when assigned in the form of objectives. Contributes to creation of recommendations for solutions and new procedures. Self-motivated and detail oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects and complete tasks within tight deadlines. Must be comfortable exercising independent judgment in completing tasks.
