Accurately input new claims and provide administrative support for key department functions. Act as first point of customer contact by responding to incoming phone requests from policyowners, beneficiaries, brokers, insured, and field personnel. Accurately communicate claim information and company policies.
Establish system records, analyze claim documentation, set up new claim files and secure additional claim information. Assist the department by securing relevant information pertaining to claims and follow-up on outstanding information within prescribed timeframes. Determine correct policy numbers and appropriate systems to check and subsequently input data into the claims systems.
Provide prompt, accurate information via telephone and email to insured, beneficiaries, policyowners, group offices, agents and other types of callers. Accurately transfer callers to other areas of the company as needed and follow up where appropriate. Respond by phone or email to company requests for information such as legal indexing, bankruptcy notices and policyholder terminations.
Distribute mail and reports, prepare benefit checks for mailing and close completed claims. Identify destination of mis-routed mail and ensure delivery to appropriate area. Maintain accurate filing system of closed and denied claims within the department. Properly route closed claims to records as needed. Prepare daily accounting batches and prepare claim transmissions for outside vendor.
Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
Experience: One year demonstrated customer service experience; demonstrated ability to complete a variety of high volume tasks timely and accurately; accurate keyboarding of 20-30 wpm; or the equivalent combination of education and/or relevant experience.
