    Analyze tax impact of management plans within the related federal and jurisdictional income tax laws and regulations.  Research current tax developments and analyze the tax impact of new products and services to facilitate management decision making and to assure the company meets its tax liability and compliance requirements.  Act as primary resource to corporate accounting and divisions with respect to statutory and GAAP tax accounting in order to meet regulatory agency and GAAP requirements. 

    Responsibilities

    Prepare complex income tax provisions based on GAAP and SAP.  Prepare consolidated life/non-life schedules applying federal limitations in utilizations of carry-forward.  Prepare analysis of effective rate and deferred taxes for management.  Peer review less complex tax accruals.  

     

    Maintain tax balances sheets for insurance companies and prepare analysis which supports deferred tax balances based on FAS 109; and, admitted and non-admitted balances for SAP 10.  Prepare and maintain tax basis of non-life entities.  Prepare tax footnotes for 10Q, 10K and statutory whiteback.

     

    Review state and federal income tax returns.  Consolidate federal life/non-life returns supported by analysis of the utilization of NOL and charitable contribution carry-forwards.   Analysis of LICTI offset by proper characterization of eligible and ineligible entities in the non-life subgroup.  Peer review insurance company tax returns and/or return schedules.                                                    

     

    Analyze and review proposed inter-company transactions, accounting and actuarial method changes for possible tax impacts and reporting requirements.  Perform advanced research, prepare analysis and effectively report results to appropriate corporate personnel or divisional representatives.

     

    Assist in federal and state audits by providing backup work papers and documents in response to requests from examiners.                  

     

    Identify and recommend opportunities to reduce the Company’s federal and state income tax liability through analysis of new state and federal regulations.

    Qualifications

    Education:  Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.

     

    Experience:  10 years progressively responsible experience preparing and interpreting tax, or the equivalent combination of education and/or relevant experience.

     

    Professional certification required:  CPA, or an advance degree such as Master of Tax or equivalent experience.
