    Acceptance to a position in this job family constitutes participation in the Actuarial Student Program at The Standard. The mission of the Actuarial Student Program is to grow actuarial knowledge, business acumen and leadership skills in our Actuaries to enable the achievement of organizational goals. Actuarial students are supported in and are expected to progress through the levels of the job family based on academic/exam achievements and by developing their analytical skills, independent decision making, and effective communication and leadership skills.

    Responsibilities

    Visa Sponsorship:  Please note - we only sponsor visa for FSA level positions and not this level of student position at this time.   

     

    In your initial rotational assignment, we seek your best thinking and enthusiasm to develop actuarial expertise in joining our Individual Annuities Actuarial team.  You’ll leverage your analytical skills and attention to detail in support of our initiatives that are critical to our success. Your principal responsibilities include:

    • Assistance in the development and maintenance of actuarial models to support financial reporting.
    • Leveraging models to analyze results that drive appropriate business decisions
    • Conduct experience studies – monitoring policyholder behavior and analyzing data to inform business decisions
    • Assisting with the annual assumption setting process
    • Keeping an eye out for improving process efficiency and accuracy and maintaining documentation that supports our processes and models
    • .Preparation and passing of actuarial exams in pursuit of the FSA designation.

    Qualifications

    Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree required. Advanced degree a plus.
    • 1 - 3 years of actuarial or related analytical experience. 
    • Demonstrated recent  (last 12 months) experience in preparing for and successfully passing actuarial exams.- ideally 2 - 3 exams minimum. 
    • Strong communication skills
    • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills
    • Strong organizational and time management skills
    • Ability to collaborate with other departments and teams
    • Ability to present data clearly to a varied audience
    • Ability to prepare for and pass actuarial exams and maintain continuing education requirements.
