    Responsibilities

    The Business Systems Analyst plays a vital role in supporting customers through technology. This person utilizes creative, flexible, critical thinking to analyze and resolve complex problems, processes, or support requests while driving continuous improvement. Overseeing and reporting system operational performance is key. The primary focus is partnering with customers to acquire necessary understanding of business objectives and processes and with IT to investigate new uses of existing data and systems to achieve competitive advantage and to implement technology changes to achieve short and long-term business goals. The Business Systems Analyst participates in small to very large project efforts to provide subject matter and application expertise; to gather data to inform impact analysis for business and IT; to perform validation of solutions to satisfy requirements, user needs, and business processes; to identify and documents defects; and to understand stages of testing. Duties may include responsibility for documenting business requirements; initiating maintenance requests; writing test cases; and managing end-user testing. The Business System Analyst helps team members grow their business, systems, and process knowledge and models superior customer focus, communication and collaboration.

    Qualifications

    Business Analyst III

     

    Education, Experience, & Professional Certifications:  Typically require demonstrated expertise in Business Analysis that has been gained via a combination of formal education, certification processes, and/or practical experience per the following:

     

    Required:  A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in providing business analysis in employee benefits, financial services, technology delivery, or other related fields.

     

    Desired:  Bachelor’s degree in Business or a related field.  Achievement of or progress toward:  Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI), Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP) or Certification of Competency in Business Analysis (CCBA) preferred; Project Management Professional (PMP), certification in Process or Performance Management, or certification in Quality Assurance/Testing desirable. 

     

    Preferred:  Masters Degree in Business or a related field.  Completed certification(s).

     

    Highly encouraged:  Membership in local business analysis association.

     

    Knowledge & Skills:  Sought out for communication, facilitation, and collaboration skills in a variety of settings and projects.  Has and applies a thorough understanding of analytical skills and navigates successfully through or improves company procedures and policies. 

     

    Job Complexity & Judgment:  Works on wide range of assignments that are complex, up to and including Enterprise-wide assignments.  Often defines procedures or identifies innovative solutions for how to complete analytical tasks.  Is a primary driver of collaboration on project teams.  Influences decision-making and actively engages with project leaders, sponsors and key stakeholders to ensure optimum business value delivery.  Regularly acts as a mentor and role model for other analysts.

     

    Independence & Supv required:  Typically receives little instruction on daily work.  May require general instructions on new assignments.  May develop new procedures and/or supervise others.

     

    Interaction & Influence:  Contacts are typically company wide.  Communicates with and influences management as appropriate to project needs.  Networks with internal peers.
